One of FusionWare's most successful products has been mv2SQL.  Many of our customers want a quick, easy way to get data out of their MultiValue systems and into a Data Warehouse or Data Mart for offline reporting or archival purposes.

While there is one somewhat manual step that cannot be avoided, mv2SQL really automates much of the activity that you would normally need to do.  In short, the one thing you have to do is to identify the data that you want to transfer.  Our Mapping Wizard does much of this for you automatically, setting up a map of the data that you want to process.  mv2SQL then creates SQL tables that will store that data in a relational form.  Our product comes with many tools for identifying data anomalies so that you can quickly and efficiently resolve these problems.  It really takes the rest of the process and automates it for you.

This has worked well for customers who already had the staff and resources to provision a SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 or MySQL system, configure it and maintain it.

However, for many of our customers, provisioning and maintenance is really a significant barrier to proceeding.  Let's face it, a significant portion of the MultiValue community are either very small businesses or relatively small divisions of a larger enterprise that have limited budget and limited staff.

SQL Azure provides a wonderful opportunity to avoid those provisioning and maintenance costs.  FusionWare has a new product, mv2Cloud, which is really mv2SQL modified to support SQL Azure as a target.  mv2SQL has traditionally supported SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 and MySQL as targets, but now supports SQL Azure, as well through our new mv2Cloud option.

You still need to identify the data that you wish to transfer, but once that is done, mv2Cloud will do the following for you:

  • Create tables for each PICK file, including tables for all related multi and sub values.
  • Create foreign keys so that multi and sub value tables can be linked back to their parent tables.
  • Transfer the data

From there, you can create reports or views, do ad-hoc reporting and other activities against that data.
